In the last 10 years, he has specialised on Cerner EMR implementations yet he has worked as an HIM, Data Manager, Research Officer, Systems Analyst, Consultant, Architect & Program Manager for clients and health services across Australia.

Yasmeen GeorgeLecturer (Data Science and AI), Monash University

Yasmeen is a Lecturer in the data science and AI department at Monash Faculty of Information Technology, with over a decade of interdisciplinary research experience in AI for medical image analytics, data science, and computer vision. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne in 2018 and her research work is recognised through several research publications, 2 patents, invited talks, and research grants.

Faezeh MarzbanradLecturer and Head of Biomedical Signal Processing Research Lab, Monash University

Dr Faezeh Marzbanrad joined the Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) Department of Monash University in June 2016, where she is currently a lecturer. She completed her Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne in May 2016, with IPRS and APA scholarships funded by the Australian Government.
She was awarded Victoria Fellowship by Veski and the Victorian Government in 2021 and received Women Leading Tech Award in Education/Research category in 2022. Her research interests include biomedical signal processing, machine learning, medical devices, health equity, mobile-health as well as foetal, maternal and neonatal healthcare technologies.

Siew Joo BehCEO and Co-Founder, HatiSens

She is also a PhD candidate at Integrated Photonics and Application Center (InPAC), RMIT University. Siew’s research focus on developing photonic biosensors for blood-related diagnosis and point-of-care devices. She also has a passion for science communication, particularly through art illustration and games.

Daniela DucPost-Doctoral Researcher, Cortical Labs

Daniela is a Junior Post-Doctoral Researcher at Cortical Labs (CCLabs Pty Ltd) neurotechnology start-up company focussed in creating biocomputing emerging technologies. At Cortical Labs, Daniela contributes to the Neuroscience Research and Hardware Design Research teams. She recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (2021) in the field of neuroscience and electrode interface fabrication. In her Ph.D. research, Daniela designed, synthesised and investigated graphene and nanoparticle-based materials to in order to create interfaces for near-infrared and electrical modulations of neurons. Over the years, she gained expertise in neurophysiology, electrophysiology, neural development, neuromodulation, electrode interface fabrication shown by her experience, dedication, publications and research awards. She is also an academic teaching staff at Swinburne University of Technology. Her main interests are in Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, Biodevices, Biomaterials, Translational Research, MedTech, Neurotech, Start-ups, Compassionate Innovation, Inclusion & Diversity in STEMM and STEMM Education.

Santiago Beltran DiazCo-Founder and COO, TuCann Medical and Systems Engineer, Planet Innovation

Santiago is an avid entrepreneur having co-founded the first medical technology student group at Monash University, Monash Young Medtech Innovators (MYMI), as well as his own startup, TuCann Medical. He graduated from Monash University with a Biomedical Science and Materials Engineering degree.

Santiago is now co-founder and COO at TuCann Medical, a MedTech startup developing a novel peripheral intravenous cannula that aims to reduce bloodstream infections associated with the cannulation procedure. He is also currently a systems engineer at Planet Innovation, where he has gained valuable experience in the product development process for the commercialisation of in vitro diagnostic devices

Santiago Beltran DiazCo-Founder and COO, TuCann Medical and Systems Engineer, Planet Innovation

Tayla RazmovskiResearch Assistant, Eye and Ear Hospital

Tayla has a technical background in biomedical engineering from RMIT University, which during her undergraduate completed several internships with the Royal Children’s Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital and was selected to be a part of the Study Center for Optofluidics and Nanophotonics program, which entailed a six-month research internship at the Hochschule Karlsruhe Technik & Wirtschaft in Karlsruhe, Germany. She recently submitted her PhD thesis at the University of Melbourne in the Department of Otolaryngology, under the supervision of Professor Stephen O’Leary. Her project focused on improving the preservation of residual hearing in cochlear implant recipients, by using four-point impedance as a biomarker for physiological events occurring in the cochlea.

Zafar Faraz is a Biomedical Engineering Graduate who completed his masters from the University of Melbourne in 2020. Soon after his masters, he started work as a research assistant specialising in computer vision in the ARC centre of excellence. Where he worked in a project in collaboration with IBM and University of Melbourne helping develop a Brain - Computer Interface to assist people with paralysis. Once, completing the project there he moved into a tole as a field clinical engineer at Synchron - a neurotech company working towards commercialising a scalable brain-computer interface amidst a booming industry.

He is a registered patent attorney and completed his Masters of Intellectual Property Law while finishing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. Aidan is an author on the first XV Technology journal publications, and is a registered patent attorney with experience gained in one of the largest intellectual property firms in Australia. He drives the Company’s research and development activities as well as its IP strategy with an in-depth knowledge of both 4DMedical’s technology and the IP landscape.

She has a passion for biomedical engineering having helped develop eye-tracking software in collaboration with Solve Disability Solutions to assist people who are quadriplegic. She has also collaborated internationally with Polytechnique Montreal to improve the functionality of bionic hands.
