The IEEE EMBs Ecuador Technical & Student chapters, and the Organizing Committee of the 2020 International Student Conference invite undergraduate, graduate, master’s and doctoral students  to submit Extended abstracts reporting original and novel research results in the following, but not limited areas:

  • Bioinformatics in Diagnosis
Storage, processing and analysis of biological data focused on the diagnosis of diseases in humans and animals. It uses tools such as personal computers (PC) or in silica experiments, which allow the identification of bacterial, viral, fungal and other pathogens.
  • Biomechanics and Bio-Robotics
Seeks the development of systems with biological characteristics or that can interact with biological systems. It covers the creation of prostheses (human or animal), organ transplantation, artificial systems, among others. In addition, it encompasses the motor systems that allow the movement of biological entities. Both sciences are applied at the macro and micro level and start from what happens at the level of muscles, tissues and molecules.
  • Biomedical Signal and Image Processing
It includes the creation of software and techniques that analyze physiological signals such as: heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels, blood glucose, nerve conduction, brain activity, etc. It works with algorithms and bio-measurement tools to provide clinicians with data that improves clinical evaluations.
  • Neuroscience and Clinical Engineering
It is based on any scientific application focused on the nervous system. It seeks the development of mechanisms to regulate nervous reactions and generate communication between the machine and the brain. In addition, it allows the design of interfaces that relate neural tissue with artificial tissues to monitor neuronal functions.
Clinical engineering includes the development of automation systems in health institutions that provide patient safety and efficiently manage resources. It focuses on the administration of medical technology, evaluation of health technologies, design of clinical areas, impact of technology on the quality of service and research of technologies for hospital problems.
  • Therapeutic and Diagnostics Systems, Devices and Technologies
Progress of systems or devices for the identification and rehabilitation of physical, sensory, motor or neuronal disorders of patients. It includes elements related to robotics, virtual reality, simulations, magnetic stimulations and analysis of movement and behavior.
  • Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials
It combines cells and molecules with synthetic elements to restore or improve damaged tissues or entire organs. It aims to design materials that temporarily replace diseased tissues while they regenerate. It combines techniques such as 3D printing, electrospinning and cell culture.

Abstracts can be written in English, Spanish or Portuguese limited to 4 pages, formatted as the standard IEEE double-column conference template and submitted exclusively in PDF on EasyChair at the IEEE ISC page. Conference content will be recognized in the congress memories with ISBN, but will not be indexed to any database.

Authors can also present previous works that have already been presented, as they are not indexed.
